Creator has 200k followers but only 1% engagement. Is it still worth ₹18k?

Found a fashion creator with 200k followers, beautiful feed, very on-brand for our kurta line. But engagement is 0.9–1.1%. They are quoting ₹18,000 for a Reel. Is reach without engagement worth it for a fashion brand?

1% engagement on 200k is below average (fashion average is 2.4%). But raw engagement rate can be misleading. Check the comment quality — are they genuine comments asking about the outfit and where to buy, or just "🔥🔥" spam? Real purchase-intent comments matter more than the percentage. Also look at Story view rate. If she has 20k–30k Story views with real responses, the engaged core audience is there.

I have 180k and 1.3% engagement but my Story poll responses average 4,000+. My Reel engagement looks low because I get a lot of non-follower views that do not engage. Judge a creator by Story interaction, not just Reel engagement rate alone. DM the creator and ask for their Story insights screenshot.

We paid ₹15k to a 210k creator with 1.2% engagement. Got 38k Reel views but only 11 trackable website visits. The content was gorgeous but converted at near zero. The audience was there to watch fashion, not to buy. High-fashion creators often have admirers, not buyers. Look for creators whose audience actually shops.

Counter-experience: we ran the same campaign with a 1% engagement creator and a 4% engagement creator at the same cost. The 1% creator got more total views (higher reach) and the brand awareness metrics were better. For a new brand trying to build visibility, reach can matter. For direct sales, engagement matters. Know your goal.
