How does the PPV rate I set actually affect which creators apply to my campaign?

Setting up a PPV campaign for our D2C tech gadget brand. The platform shows a suggested rate range. If I go lower than suggested to save budget, do fewer creators apply? How sensitive is it?

PPV rate is directly correlated with applicant quality and quantity. Our platform data shows: campaigns priced at or above the niche median receive 4.2x more applications than campaigns 20% below median. More importantly, vetted creators — who are the most in-demand — actively filter campaigns below their minimum acceptable PPV rate. Going 15–20% below the suggested rate typically results in: fewer total applicants, higher share of unvetted/new creators applying, and lower average match scores among applicants. Think of PPV rate like a salary posting — underpay and the best candidates do not apply.

Tech creator here with 120k followers. I have a floor rate below which I do not apply — currently ₹0.35/view. Below that, even if I like the brand, the math does not work for the effort I put into tech review content. I spend 8–10 hours on a detailed tech review. If a brand offers ₹0.18/view, I need 55k+ views just to make it worthwhile. I pass on those.

We tried going 20% below suggested rate. Got 6 applications in 2 weeks vs 28 applications in 3 days at the suggested rate. Approved the same number but the quality pool was much smaller. The rate difference was ₹7,000 total on a ₹35k campaign. Not worth it.

Counter-strategy: if you must underprice, compensate with a higher campaign visibility (is_public = true lets any creator apply) and better product incentive (send the gadget as barter + PPV together). Some creators will take a lower PPV rate if they genuinely want the product.

From female tech creator side: I apply to tech campaigns based on whether I would genuinely use the product AND whether the brand seems trustworthy (verified badges, clear brief, real brand). A slightly lower rate from a legitimate well-reviewed brand beats a higher rate from a brand with zero reviews. Your brand profile matters as much as your rate.
