Brand offered barter only (₹4,000 product). I have 95k followers. Should I accept?

A home decor brand reached out for a collab. They are offering their product only (valued at ₹3,800–₹4,200). No cash. My usual rate for a Reel is ₹8,500–₹10,000. Is this worth accepting or how do I counter?

Three questions I ask myself: (1) Is this a product I would actually buy and use? (2) Does this brand fit my aesthetic and would my audience want to see it? (3) Is this a brand I want a long-term relationship with? If all three yes — I accept barter for my first collab with them and negotiate cash from the second. If any are no — I politely decline.

Brand perspective: creators who accept barter make much better brand partners long-term because they chose us for the right reasons. I always tell creators upfront: if this first campaign goes well, the next one includes a cash fee. Making that promise and keeping it has built some of our best creator relationships.

Counter offer I use: "I love the product but my standard rate for a Reel is ₹9k. I am happy to accept ₹4k product + ₹3,500 cash as a starting point for our first collab." Most brands respond well to this — you are meeting them halfway. Fewer than 20% decline when I frame it this way.

Also consider the non-monetary value: content for your portfolio, a potential gifting partner for future unboxings, and building your brand collab history (which matters when applying for larger paid campaigns). Not all barter is equal — some product gifting builds your profile in ways that compound. Home decor content performs very well organically which helps your own reach.

One thing I always check: the brand's CreloAI badge. If they have a "Fast Shipper" badge and "Verified Completions" — I trust they will send the product promptly and have done real campaigns before. A barter offer from a brand with no badges or history is a risk not worth taking. The badge system protects creators from wasted time.
